Deactivate Facebook:
- Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
- Select Settings and privacy, then click Settings.
- Click Accounts Centre in the top left of your screen.
- Click Personal details, under Account settings.
- Click Account ownership and control.
- Click Deactivation or deletion.
- Choose the account or profile that you want to deactivate.
- Select Deactivate account.
- Click Continue then follow the instructions to confirm.
Delete Facebook:
- Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
- Select Settings and privacy, then click Settings.
- Click Accounts Centre in the top left of your screen.
- Click Personal details, under Account settings.
- Click Account ownership and control.
- Click Deactivation or deletion.
- Choose the account or profile that you want to delete.
- Select Delete account.
- Click Continue then follow the instructions to confirm.
Facebook settings don’t always stay the same—they’re updated regularly. If the Account Center settings are located in the top left menu, you can follow the guidelines above to deactivate or delete your account through the Account Center. However, if the Account Center is located in the bottom left corner, you’ll need to go through Facebook settings to deactivate or delete your account.
How to deactivate Facebook mobile app
Deactivating a Facebook account through the mobile app is very simple. To deactivate your Facebook account using the mobile app, follow the guidelines given below.
- Select your profile image at the top of the app to open the menu.
- Select the small gear/settings icon at the top.
- Tap Accounts Center.
- Select Personal details.
- Tap Account ownership and control.
- Choose Deactivation or deletion.
- Select your Facebook account from the list.
- Tap Deactivate account if it’s not already chosen, then select Continue.
- Type your Facebook password and then tap Continue.
- Pick the reason you’re deactivating Facebook and then tap Continue. To have Facebook reactivate automatically, select This is temporary. I’ll be back. Otherwise, select any other option.
- Depending on the reason you chose in the previous step, Facebook will provide more information about that option or offer alternatives to deactivating. Answer any questions and tap Continue to move on.
- Tap Deactivate my account.
Note: Deactivate your account will also deactivate your other additional Facebook profiles as well as pages where you are the only admin or person with full control. Facebook account deactivate link

- Sign in to your Facebook account.
- Select the ‘Deactivate Account’ option and follow the instructions to complete the process.
Tips: It’s a simple and quick process.
How to delete Facebook account on phone
Delete means to completely remove. Similarly, in Facebook, delete means permanently removing your Facebook account. If you want to permanently delete your Facebook account, follow the instructions given below
- Select your qprofile image at the top of the app to open the menu.
- Select the small gear/settings icon at the top.
- Tap Accounts Center.
- Select Personal details.
- Tap Account ownership and control.
- Choose Deactivation or deletion.
- Select your Facebook account from the list.
- Pick the reason you’re Delete Facebook and then tap Continue.
- Tap Continue > Continue
- Type your Facebook password and then tap Continue.
- Tap Delete my account.
Important Points:
- After deleting your account, you have 30 days to change your mind. During this period, you must log in to cancel the deletion process.
- Once 30 days have passed, your account and data will be permanently deleted.
- Messages or information sent to others’ inboxes may still remain even after the account is deleted.
Facebook account Delete link

- Select the ‘Delete’ option and follow the instructions to complete the process.
How to deactivate Messenger
You cannot deactivate Facebook Messenger alone. To deactivate Messenger, you must first deactivate your entire Facebook account.
Note: This action can only be done on a mobile device.
- Open the Messenger app.
- Tap Menu , then tap Setting .
- Tap Accounts Center.
- Tap Personal details.
- Tap Account ownership and control.
- Tap Deactivation or deletion.
- Tap Continue to Facebook account deactivation and deletion.
- Tap Continue to account deactivation.
- Enter your password and tap Continue.
If these steps don’t work for you, try this:
- From Chats, tap your profile picture in the corner.
- Scroll down and tap Account settings.
- Tap Account ownership and control.
- Tap Deactivation and deletion.
- Tap Continue to Facebook account deactivation and deletion.
- Tap Continue to account deactivation.
- Enter your password and tap Continue.
However, if you want to keep using your Facebook account but not Messenger, you can partially disable it by hiding your active status in the app. The steps are provided below:
How to hide your active status on Messenger:
- Open the Messenger app.
- Tap Menu , then tap Setting .
- Find the Active Status option.
- Go there and turn off the Show when you’re active option.
- Select Turn Off to confirm.
By doing this, others won’t see you as active on Messenger, and you won’t be able to see their online status either.
